Guest Lecture - Cross Cultural Differences in Business Management

Today’s managers frequently face cross-cultural differences in the workplace. Drawing on her experience with trade missions, market visits, international trade training and international trade events, Elena discussed cross-cultural differences and their impact on different aspects of business.
 
Liverpool & Sefton Chamber of Commerce works to promote and celebrate businesses in Liverpool and their contribution to the city region. They actively support the exporting of local business' products, services and talent across the world and offer apprenticeships, qualifications and employment opportunities to young people, giving them the chance to shine in local businesses.

Insight to Business 2017 Awards 

An evening of glitz and glamour as Liverpool Hope Business School students were presented with unique and dynamic work experience opportunities in organisations such as Everton FC, Grant Thornton, Crowne Plaza and dewinter Public Relations. 

The Insight to Business awards, now in their third year, seek to celebrate and acknowledge the successes and talents of our Business School students.

 ‌‌Young Enterprise Regional - 2017 Young Enterprise 

Young Enterprise 2017 Regional Finals

A great experience for 2nd Year Business School students, who went head-to-head with representatives from other Young Enterprise Start-up groups in the region. Two student-run businesses represented Hope brilliantly and displayed true entrepreneurial spirit during the competition. 

Young Enterprise is a not-for-profit business and enterprise education charity, which gives students the support and encouragement to set up and run their own businesses.

Guest Lecture - Logistics of a Super Port and Shipping Canal 

Stephen Carr delivered an insightful lecture to Business Management students about the new Liverpool2 development. This is a project with which Stephen is heavily involved and once completed will allow some of the world's largest container ships to dock at the Port of Liverpool. Stephen discussed the £400 million project and how best to manage the logistics of such and endeavour. 

Peel Ports Group is an innovative organisation with over 300 years of experience in supply chain management and port logistics.

Held in conjunction with Downtown in Business, this Networking Masterclass gave students the unique opportunity to gain skills in the art of successful business networking. With representatives from over 30 local businesses, this was a great opportunity for Liverpool Hope Students to potentially meet their future employers.

Guest Lecture - Health and Well-Being in a Call Centre

Rachel Egerton is responsible for the end-to-end QVC employee experience in the UK. Her guest lecture focused on ‘good practice’ approaches to health and well-being and sharing her experience of how to use this to support employee engagement within a call centre environment.

QVC UK is a television based shopping channel with over one million customers, it was also named the fifth most trusted brand in a recent customer insights poll.

Jennie's talk highlighted how many companies may face different types of crises from both internal and external factors. She discussed how important it is that effective strategies are in place by an organisation so they are able to cope with such disturbances. Jennie also recounted her own experiences in a real-life account of dealing with Crisis Management within Public Relations.

David Pritchard started his sales career with Canon and will happily admit to not being the best sales person. However, through hard work and learning as much as possible from his colleagues he has progressed to a sales position with Star Pubs. His lecture to third year Marketing students focused on the importance of preparation, an understanding of the product and an understanding of yourself. 

Star Pubs is the Leased Pub Business of Heineken UK, they work closely with lessees and offer industry leading retail support and advice.

Guest Lecture - The Atlantic Gateway

Paul Grover delivered a fascinating lecture to Business Management students on the potential for growth and development along the Atlantic Gateway. Paul's talk paid particular attention to the corridor between Liverpool and Manchester and the significant development opportunities it holds, which could drive growth and increase productivity for private and public sector companies.

The Atlantic Gateway is lead by a private sector board and its vision is to support the delivery of major projects by Local Enterprise Partnerships (LEP)'s

Sian, a graduate of Tourism Management & Marketing from Liverpool Hope University, discussed her experiences following university. She focused on the reasons she started her own business and how she is learning to develop her own business sense and skills. Sian went on to discuss the various elements that are considered when marketing for clients, from the uses of mixed media to the specific language needed on campaigns.

Performing a comprehensive PESTLE analysis of the market can provide a framework that will help businesses expand and develop.

Ed Mayo, a leader in the Co-operative business sector, gave a lecture on his latest book, Values: How to bring values to life in your business, and highlighted his belief in the importance of values that influence attitudes and behaviours and ultimately determine our success. 

The Co-op is one of the world's largest consumer co-operatives, owned by millions of members, they are also the UK's fifth biggest food retailed with more than 2,500 local, convenience and medium-sized stores.

Young Enterprise group 'Synergy' experienced their first trading opportunity. Situated in a prime location in the Liverpool Hope University Christmas Market, Synergy's collection of handmade bags were met with great excitement and quite a few purchases.

Liverpool Hope Business School Inaugural Burrows/Kennedy Distinguished Lecture

Sir James Timpson gave an inspiring and dynamic lecture on his family's company. He talked about how he strives to keep the business fresh and likes to try out new ideas to innovate the services that the company offers. 

Timpson Retail is a family owned retail business based in Manchester and currently trades from 1,850 shops across the country. The company has 5,200 staff and has a turnover in excess of £250 million.

Crowne Plaza Hotel - John Lennon Airport (Speke) 

Students from the Business Schools' Marketing Department were fortunate to meet with Paul Gallon, General Manager of the Crowne Plaza Hotel (Speke). The hotel was looking for a group of students to use their social media and marketing expertise to establish a social media presence for the brand. This was a great opportunity for students to put what they had been taught during classes into practice in the real world. 

Crowne Plaza is regarded as one of the premier luxury hotels in Liverpool, set within the original Grade 2 Listed Liverpool airport terminal it still retains some of its distinctive Art Deco features.

Presentation and Public Speaking skills workshop

It turns out that laugher isn't just the best medicine, it's also really useful when you're getting ready to give a presentation, as a group of students found out in a session led by comedian Sam Avery. Sam explained the importance of preparing for your presentation by breaking it down into small steps and researching everything carefully. His top tip of the day was, above all else, 'just be yourself'

A group of Level I Business Management students took to the road and headed to the head office of the Manchester Airport Group. The students got the chance to take part in an 'Interview Question Workshop', gaining useful experience in answering competency questions during interviews.
