Outdoor Leadership

Leadership

Managing a group of hillwalkers in the British mountains requires special skills which cannot be learnt through the normal experience of climbing and hill walking. With proper training and assessment in areas such as group management, emergency procedures and the correct use of equipment, leaders can improve their ability and increase their self confidence.

Plas Caerdeon is the ideal base for people needing to gain the necessary qualifications to lead others in the mountains of Britain. Mountain Training (www.mountain-training.org) is  responsible for maintaining standards in mountain training, particularly the training given to potential mountain leaders and rock climbing supervisors.

Plas Caerdeon regularly runs training and assessment courses, including workshops, providing a high standard of facilities for outdoor training. The centre's grounds, immediate access to high open countryside and standard of accommodation makes Plas Caerdeon an ideal venue.

Please contact Plas Caerdeon for full details of Mountain Leader Training Courses and Single Pitch Awards, including necessary experience and other course pre-requisites.

First Aid

A number of first aid courses are available, including those specifically for the outdoor environment. The emphasis is on practically based training and is recognised as appropriate for Mountain Leader Awards and Single Pitch Awards, as well as by most other governing bodies.

Canoeing and Kayaking

Overlooking the inspiring beauty of the Mawddach estuary and the close proximity of rivers and exhilarating surf beaches, Plas Caerdeon is an ideal venue for a wide range of canoe and kayak courses. Nearby indoor and outdoor training pools and a fleet of sea and general purpose kayaks and open boats add to the flexibility and range of courses available. Full details are available from the centre.
