Our Partnership

The School of Teacher Education is strongly committed to partnership-led teacher education. The Partnership shares a vision and commitment built on values of mutual respect to support the development of high quality teachers. We recognise that the quality of our students gaining Qualified Teacher Status is dependent on the valuable work carried out in schools and ensuring a collaborative approach is maintained at every stage of the management and delivery process.

We are committed to a process of continuous monitoring and review. The continuing dialogue with our partners is a key driver for our improvement. We set ourselves the highest targets in the training of the next generation of teachers, and we know that these mirror your own standards for your schools and pupils.

We are committed to partnership in the fullest sense - that is, sharing strategic responsibility with you for shaping our provision at every level - in order to ensure the best possible progress for both pupils and student teachers. We are committed to being fully transparent with our partnership colleagues, we are continually working to consolidate and further develop existing partnerships whilst also establishing new strong and trusting relationships. In this spirit, we are actively seeking more colleagues from across the Partnership to join our already active steering committees, working groups and work with subject teams, and we warmly invite any feedback in addition to our formal evaluation processes.

Safeguarding in Teacher Education

Safeguarding

As a successful Partnership the University works across a wide range of settings and providers. It is our aim to promote the highest standards in relation to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children, young people and adults.

Safeguarding is everyone’s responsibility.

Safeguarding is a term which is broader than ‘child protection’ and relates to the action taken to promote the welfare of children, young people and adults and protect them from harm.

Safeguarding is defined in Working together to safeguard children 2013 as:

  • protecting children from maltreatment
  • preventing impairment of children’s health and development
  • ensuring that children grow up in circumstances consistent with the provision of safe and effective care and
  • taking action to enable all children to have the best outcomes

Trainees in the School of Teacher Education should report any university based safeguarding concerns that arise to a member of staff, their Head of Department or one of the Designated Safeguarding Officers.

Professional Placement

Teacher Education trainees who complete Professional Placement should ensure they are conversant with the Department Reporting a Concern Procedure. The procedure sets out the actions to be taken by a trainee who wishes to raise a concern in relation to their own Professional Placement.

Before commencing any professional placement, trainees should ensure they understand and are responsible for:

1. Ensuring they have received a copy of and understand the implications of their setting safeguarding policy before commencing any programme, placement, event, visit or activity;
2. Ensuring they have received the relevant policies and understand the processes for Whistleblowing, child and vulnerable adult protection and the Management of Cause for Concern on placement;
3. Reporting any safeguarding concerns that arise following their placement procedures and if deemed necessary reporting to the university designated safeguarding officer.

The Hope Mentor

MENTOR TRAINING EVENTS

Our Campus Training Sessions are coming soon. Please check back here for a list of dates.

If you are unable to attend our mentor training events on campus you can access our online training below.

Once you have completed your registration you will receive an email asking you to log in using the link provided. You will then be able to access our mentor training materials and complete your training online. There will be a multiple choice quiz at the end of each level* and a certificate will be generated upon successful completion.

*Levels must be completed in sequence.

I can't praise them enough for their hard work and they both took the initiative at times to help me. They took part in the whole of school life by helping in the after school clubs and going on a historical school trip (in their own time).
