The Sheppard-Worlock Library

The Sheppard-Worlock Library has the largest range of learning spaces with the University, offering every kind of study environment. The library has just under 180 PCs for student use, 8 loanable laptops and B&W and colour printing, photocopying and scanning facilities.

Students can now find out which PCs are available within the library and across the campus by downloading the University app HopeUni. The library also has an online booking system that books and reserves study spaces within the library. Students can book out these study spaces from their mobile or PC, whilst they are on or off the campus and the system can be found when logging into MyHope.

The Sheppard-Worlock Library also has a (Computer Assisted Technology) CAT suite located on the ground floor of the library near to the Hilda Constance Allen entrance. This space is available on a drop-in basis to any students with a disability. Study Zones

We offer a range of zones from silent, quiet, group and social for you to use. To gain a more detailed view of The Sheppard-Worlock Library and the types of Learning Spaces on offer, click on the floor plans below. There are 60 PCs located on the SWL balcony and over 80 PCs located in the quiet areas and the rear areas of the library. SWL 122 and SWL 124 contain over 30 PCs in total and can be used on a drop-in basis when the room is not being used for teaching. For more information about other PC locations in the library, check the IT pages which give detailed information about the specialist software packages available in these areas. The Chapters Cafe is also located within the library and serves a selection of drinks, light lunches, snacks and cakes. Within the Cafe there is a drinks and snacks vendor, hot drinks machine and water dispenser. Study Carrels

In The Sheppard-Worlock Library there are over 18 study carrels that can be booked out for individual private study, for one-to-ones or pair work. There are a range of study carrels that are equipped with PCs, natural light, DVD players or desk space for reading or laptop use. There is also a range of software available on these PCs. More detailed information can be found on the online booking system, where the study carrels can be booked on and off the campus through any mobile device once logged into MyHope. Group Study Spaces

Within the Group Study Zone and the Foyer Area on the ground floor of The Sheppard-Worlock Library there are 4 bookable group study rooms. All group study rooms have the capacity to seat up to 8 people and have presentation facilities available. All group study spaces can be booked via the online booking system on and off campus, once logged into MyHope. All study rooms can be booked for up to 2 hours and there are loanable laptops available for use within these rooms, which are loaned out from the HCA entrance during staffed hours and at the main help point outside of these hours. Honours Study Space

The Honours Study Space is located on the ground floor of The Sheppard-Worlock Library and has 17 PCs available. A number of the PCs contain specialist software including SPSS, Smartboard software and Education packages. This room is only available to Honours Level students who will be give a code for entry upon showing their Honours Student Card at the Library Help Point. This study space also has printing and photocopying facilities with desk space for group work or laptop use. 

Postgraduate Space

The Postgraduate Study Space is located on the ground floor in The Sheppard-Worlock Library and is available to research and taught masters postgraduates and academic staff. Provision consists of a drop-in computer lab with 4 PCs and a desk space. There are also 4 individual study rooms which can be booked daily via the booking system available at the main help desk. Two of these rooms can be booked for up to a month.
