Welcome to Liverpool Hope University and congratulations on your new appointment.

We would like to take the time to welcome you into the University and also welcome you to your new city of Liverpool.

Whether you are a visiting lecturer, or a permanent member of staff, we are sure that Liverpool Hope University and the surrounding city will touch your hearts and give you memories that you will not soon forget. 

To support your transition not only to a new job, but also a new country, there is a wide range of facilities and opportunities for you here. There is a wide variety of events and courses held over the duration of the year to help you with your professional development. 

There is a mandatory induction that all staff must attend. This will help you get acquainted with Liverpool Hope University and your department, also it will make you aware of essential policies and procedures, as well as helping you familiarise yourself with your surroundings.  

At Liverpool Hope University we understand that moving can be stressful at the best of times, let alone to a new country. We have provided you with a Staff International Guide to help you familiarise yourself with your new environment. Liverpool has vast wealth of culture and landmarks that are World renowned and spectacular to see. 

There is also a Staff Families Association, which is a social group within Liverpool Hope University, it provides a friendly welcome and support to the families of newly appointed staff. Staff Families meets every month for a coffee morning, either at the university, or in the homes of its members. We would like to extend a warm invitation to you to meet other staff families who have also come to the city, from elsewhere in the country, or abroad.

We hope you settle into your new home and surroundings with ease, and that you enjoy being at Liverpool Hope University as much as we enjoy having you here. 

Getting to know Hope

Hope's History and Mission

Liverpool Hope first opened its door in 1844 and was originally a training college for women. It officially became a University in 2005. An establishment that prides itself on being open, welcoming and accessible to all, the University encompasses the warm and welcoming nature of the city that surrounds it.

The University comes from a strong religious background, with its roots being 'being fully Anglican, fully Catholic and fully ecumenical' as a University we are always open and welcoming of people from all faiths and belief systems. The aim of the University is to intellectually stimulate all that walks through its doors. Also ensuring that all members of staff are intellectually challenged and passionate about the role they have at Hope. There is much more information on the rich history and missions to explore.  

Liverpool Hope University has a wide variety of places to eat from Our Place, Fresh Hope, The EDEN Café and Chapters Cafe which all sell a selection of hot and cold food, with a range of healthy options. There is also a shop on campus which sells a variety of food, household products and newspapers. 

When you arrive at Hope you will need to pick up your Staff ID card, you can get this from the Personnel office located in the main building on the first floor between the hours of 12-2. 

There is a wide range of sports facilities and discounts available to all members of staff, and a wealth of places to walk and run around the campus.

We care about your spiritual well-being as much as your physical well-being. There is a number of sacred spaces around the campus and we also have our own Chaplaincy that is open to all that wish to use it.

Liverpool City Council - This is an extremely useful webpage as it provides information on public services, catchment areas, information on tax and any other important information regarding the Liverpool City Council. 

Home Office - This will help you with information on policing and crime in your area, also UK Border Agency for visa's and entry clearance.

Government Website - This provides information on country wide public services, tax and citizenship forms.

DVLA - For information on driving laws and requirements within the UK. 

NHS - This will give you information on the public health services, it also includes 24 hour medical information all year round. 

Bank accounts for non-residents in the UK - There is numerous banks that allow you to open a bank account for use in the UK before you arrive. This is particularly helpful for those needing a bank account to rent or buy a home in the UK.  

British Council - Useful to find English language schools within the UK for spouses or dependents wanting to learn or improve on their English speaking skills.
