How to refer a student

Staff members wishing to refer a student to the Mental Health and Well-being Adviser can do so do in a number of ways.

•    Advise the student how to self-refer by providing them with the contact details for Student Development and Well-being
•    Contact Student Development and Well-being  on the student’s behalf to make an appointment (this is best done in the student’s presence wherever possible)
•    Staff may also choose to accompany the student to Student Development and Well-being (this is advisable where the student is in considerable distress)

Where a staff member has significant concern regarding a student’s emotional/psychological well-being or fitness to study, but where the student is unwilling to access university support services, a referral can be made by submitting a Student Concern Referral Form to sdw@hope.ac.uk.
It is always best to receive student consent when making a referral but if this is not possible, be clear to the student why you are making the referral and to whom the referral has been sent.
