Students' Views

What students have said about counselling at Hope?

“It was very relaxed and I was shocked at how much I actually had to say - I thought I would not want to say anything when I turned up.”

“It made me realise I'm doing a lot better than I thought I was, and that even though I have got issues, I'm hacking it okay.”

“I was able to develop a better understanding of myself, the way I was feeling, and possible reasons why I could be feeling that way. This helped me to control my inner emotions better, and express them more freely.”

“I found it helpful to be able to talk to a complete stranger about my problems. I felt as though I wouldn't be judged. I was given some methods to help relax which was helpful. I felt comfortable with the counsellor.”

“The fact that it puts everything into perspective, I came to my own conclusions with help and was able to look forward and not back.”

“Having a safe and non-judgemental environment in which to explore feelings.  Feeling that I was in partnership with the counsellor and that decisions were jointly taken.”

“I want to thank you so much for all your help and support during the time I spent at Hope. Without you I really don't think that I would have got through half of it, or done as well. I really do appreciate it and the counselling service that the University offered.”
