Progression itself is not automatic. Those interested have the opportunity to apply, at the time of the appropriate promotion exercise.
Applications are considered by a selection committee, comprising senior members of the University, and recommendations are made to the Vice-Chancellor. The process is transparent, open and inclusive. Evidence within each application is assessed against three broad headings:
Verbal feedback is provided following the exercise to explain the decision and advise how a subsequent application could be strengthened.
