Overview

Develop your knowledge and understanding of RE in Schools

The Hope Religious Education (RE) Subject Enhancement Support Programme is delivered in two stages, online and face-to-face, and has been designed to specifically support the development of participants’ understanding of RE in schools including its rationale and pedagogical approaches, as well as supporting subject knowledge development. “I’ve found the whole course a truly great experience.

"It’s been intense but so worthwhile. I’ve met so many fantastic and lovely people, both fellow trainees and the PGCE RE tutors, and I am hopeful with such a supportive network it will be a successful year.” “I really enjoyed the course – in particular the visits to the places of worship. I feel I have developed knowledge of all of the major religions.” (Previous Attendees)

Stage 1: Living Faiths Subject Knowledge Enhancement (SKE) Course

The Living Faiths SKE programme is a 5 day intensive course that will be focused on enquiry model learning in RE through visits to places of worship and workshop activity.

What will I learn?

The course develops knowledge of Buddhism, Christianity, Hinduism, Islam, Judaism and Sikhism.

Its focus is on methods of teaching which engage and create enjoyment in learning.

Stage 2: Religious Education Subject Knowledge Enhancement Twilight Sessions

These sessions are optional and can be taken individually or as a whole.

In response the changing expectations for subject knowledge in RE Liverpool Hope University are planning 7 CPD twilights for practising teachers, student teachers and intending teachers to introduce each of the world religions in accessible workshops. These will be practical in nature giving both subject knowledge and strategies for teaching.

“A real eye opener, this week has taught me so much about world religion. It was great to meet everyone, the highlight for me was the Gurdwara – amazing, can’t wait till September!”(Previous Attendee)
